December 31st

We thank all of you that supported us, with patience, appreciation and wit!  A shifting year of collegues moving on, more joining us, and some from another fantastic culinary time. Neighbours that became friends adding their unique charm. I will continue to miss all those who have moved away to pursue opportunity and obligation elsewhere.

42 will be closed after today, until January 17th while we work on background details and ramp up for 2012.

Happy New Year!

December 25, 2011

Yesterday, I woke to sun brilliance on a river which had begun to freeze and river talk. Creaking, groaning and finally the shattering of crystalline and still fragile ice. I wrapped my sheepskin around me and stepped out to watch and listen……impressive and beautiful. Finally, it felt as though winter had arrrived.

We kept our doors open at 42 for a half day so that  people could to do the last minute. It was the alumni team, with Summer, Hannah and me. The original set up and open crew.  Hannah and I made a truly delicious Irish egg nog and a few people from the neighbourhood came by for a drink and a visit….D’Arcy too.  A lovely laid back finish to 3 weeks of intense activity.

Wishing all of you a beautiful day, wherever you are…….thank you from team 42.

Thursday 4 Thursday

We are well stocked and Faith is preparing a Roots Veloute & Pissaladiere…….more Hippies on the way.

As I am coming down from the hills, listening to CBC, a commentary on the glut of email communication, and how it affects business & personal life…..

An estimated 15-20 hrs per week is spent by many, reading and answering email that does not provide timely critical information  for the workplace, nor does it seem to enhance the quality of our personal lives. Many businesses have made significant changes in the way they communicate during work hours and with that efficiency/production has increased.

We are busy producing events & functions with efficiency and hard work….stay tuned for the seasonal dishes.

Day 6

The first batch of limited edition fruit cakes are sitting quietly and sipping their ration of whiskey……they are soon to be released.

As I was turning on fb for the above post, I noticed that someone had accepted a friend request from me, that I did not send….how does that work? Grace cautioned me against the tactics used to attempt stealing one’s identity. Hah! My identity is a handful. Good luck to anyone trying to take that over.

Friday

A perfect moment last night, after a late workout that felt so good!….driving along Elgin St., and the trees are wearing their finery of lights, lazy snowflakes so fat that I can easily see each one is unique. The Signal comes on, a favourite, and everything slows. It’s just music, shimmering coloured light and swirling iridescent flakes……

That feel good, continues  today with the shop air scented freesia.  They smell of Earl Grey tea. I had purchased them last night from an already closed Bel Fiore.  The very new owner (for 1 hr only) unlocked the door and we had a lovely consultation as to how best to garnish Sylvia’s wedding cakes.

42 wishes you a wonderful day Sylvia……see you later.

Dinner

Pork shred poutine

Winter veg w/walnut au gratin

The shop is loaded and we are making deals….
